Walking away from Laz, with the slick evidence of my arousal between my legs, I struggled to make sense of just how quickly desire for Laz overcame my fear. It felt like my soul was seeking something it could only find in their arms. Was it mindless lust, or was it this mate bond? I wasn’t sure. But one thing was clear. I wasn’t afraid anymore. I don’t know when it happened, but it did. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that these people were not going to hurt me.

But even with that obstacle out of the way, I still had a decision to make. A life-altering decision. Just because I’m not afraid, doesn’t mean I want to bind myself to them for the rest of my life.

Does it?

The thought of waking up early and spending a lazy Sunday morning filling out the crossword with Laz certainly does sound like a dream come true. But all dreams end, and I need to be sure I’m willing to survive the nightmares before I get lost in the dream.

SILAS: Follow the roses.

Before I had a chance to text back, asking what he had meant, I arrived at the top of the stairs to the pier and instantly understood. Scattered across the wooden walkway were hundreds of pink rose petals. Tears tickled my eyes, but I held them back. The wind was relatively still, but the slightest breeze had their delicate forms dancing along the ground. There was a clear direction, leading directly to The Maine Plotline. I swallowed the lump in my throat and followed the path.

Guilt seeped its way into my mind. Was it wrong of me to accept the pleasure they were offering me without giving them an answer about the bond? Should I refrain from getting physical with any of them in order to keep my mind clear enough to make an educated choice?

Probably.

But the moment I entered the open store and felt Silas’ presence envelop me like a lust-filled cloud, I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist.

“Silas?” I called out, my voice heady. “How’d you get in here?”

Then, venturing around one of the stacks was Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Sinful himself. His torso was covered by a tight white t-shirt that accentuated his biceps and showed off the intricate black serpent tattoos on his alabaster skin. Dark black jeans hugged his thighs, and a silver chain hung from one of the pockets and dangled against his leg. Black hair hung loosely in his face and down to his shoulders, and that delectable lip ring glistened in the light. Fuck, he was sex on legs.

“Bookworm, if you don’t stop looking at me like that, we’re going to have to skip all the important stuff I had planned and skip right to the after-party.” My core tightened at that idea, remembering the way he dominated my body at the drive-in. What could he do to me when we were in the privacy of my store?

“Hi, Silas,” I whispered, carefully avoiding scanning my eyes across his chest again.
